You’ve done the branding shoot… now what?
(aka: how to actually use your photos and videos without spiralling or procrastinating)
You did it.
You booked the shoot. You showed up. You stepped in front of the camera even though a tiny voice in your head probably tried to talk you out of it on the way there. And now you’ve got a gallery full of photos and videos that actually feel like you.
Which is the dream, right?
And then… nothing.
Your images are sitting in a folder. Your website is still “coming soon”. Your old profile photo is still hanging on for dear life. And every time you think, “I should post something”, your brain goes:
“What if I do it wrong?”
“What if people judge me?”
“What if I’m annoying?”
“What if I’m not ready?”
There’s also my old friend “I’ve got 1001 things to do.” So I put off the more uncomfortable things like showing up aka being vulnerable.
If this is you, I want you to know two things:
You are not lazy or broken.
This is incredibly normal.
Because the shoot is step one. The next part is the real confidence work: using the content, being seen and letting people actually understand what you do.
So let’s make it easy, doable and not a massive emotional project.
First: why it feels weird (even when you love the photos)
A lot of people assume that once they have the images, confidence magically arrives and they become the main character on Instagram overnight.
In reality, what often happens is:
You love the photos… but posting them feels vulnerable.
You worry people will think you’re full of yourself (classic).
You feel like you need the perfect website / brand / offer first.
You want to do it “properly” so you do nothing instead.
You are waiting for a web designer, a rebrand, more money, more time, more certainty, a sign from the universe… you get it.
The content is not the problem. The fear of being perceived is.
So we’re going to create momentum in small steps. Because small steps are still steps. And they are much better than leaving your photos in the digital equivalent of a junk drawer.
The “Pick 3” plan (so you don’t overwhelm yourself)
Here’s the approach I recommend:
Choose 3 actions.
Do them over the next month.
Then choose 3 more.
That’s it. No content bootcamp. No 47 part strategy. Just gentle momentum.
Below is a list of simple actions you can pick from. Mix and match depending on what feels doable.
-
1) Update your profile photo in 3 places
Pick one image you love and update:
Instagram profile photo
LinkedIn profile photo
WhatsApp (yes, it counts, you are still a business owner there)
If you want to go one step further, update your email signature too. Tiny changes = big “I exist and I’m legit” energy.
2) Create a “Start here” post
This can be on Instagram, LinkedIn, or both.
Keep it simple:
Who you help
What you help them with
What result they can expect
How to work with you
You can write it as a post, pin it, and suddenly you have a very helpful little welcome mat on your profile.
3) Refresh your About page (even if your website isn’t finished)
If your website is half built, you can still update your About section copy and images.
You do not need a perfect website to start being visible. You just need somewhere people can go, “Ah yes, this is who you are and how you help.”
-
4) Update your About page photo + 3 supporting images
Most About pages have one awkward headshot and a whole lot of text doing emotional labour.
Instead:
Add one strong hero image (hello, confident you)
Add 2–3 lifestyle images that show you in action
Optional but powerful: add a short video clip as a banner or embedded reel
This builds trust fast because people can see you and your vibe.
5) Add testimonials next to your face
People connect stories to humans. Pairing a testimonial with your image is a shortcut to credibility.
Even one testimonial on your homepage can make a difference.
6) Replace any stock photos that don’t match your actual vibe
If your site looks like a corporate brochure but you are actually warm, funny, human and great at what you do… let your visuals catch up.
-
You do not need to post 10 photos at once. Let’s keep it gentle.
7) Post one image with a simple caption formula
Try one of these:
Option A: The truth
“Something I used to believe about my work was ___. Now I know ___.”Option B: The client win
“This is what I help people do: ___.”Option C: The behind the scenes
“Here’s what people don’t realise about ___.“Option D: The invitation
“If you’re struggling with ___, you might need ___.”
8) Do a mini carousel: “3 things I want you to know”
Slide 1: A bold truth
Slide 2: A relatable pain point
Slide 3: Your approach
Slide 4: What to do next (CTA)Use 1–2 images across the carousel, not different photos on every slide. Keep it simple.
9) Create a pinned post trio (Instagram)
Pin these three:
Start here (who you are + who you help)
What you offer (services / packages)
Proof (testimonial / case study / results)
It makes your profile instantly clearer without posting constantly.
-
If you have video clips from your shoot, you’re sitting on content gold.
10) Use the “overlay text” method
Pick one clip and add a short line of text:
“If you’ve been putting off being visible, this is your sign.”
“You don’t need to be confident. You need a next step.”
“Here’s what it’s like to work with me.”
“3 ways I help [your audience].”
No talking needed. No filming needed. Just post.
11) Make a “what I do” reel
Use 4–6 clips. Add text overlays:
“I help [audience] with…”
“So you can…”
“Without…”
“If you want this, here’s how to work with me.”
12) Turn one clip into a website banner
A subtle looping video on a homepage can make your brand feel expensive in the best way.
When it still feels scary: a quick confidence check
If you keep avoiding posting, ask yourself which of these is true:
“I don’t know what to say.”
That’s a strategy problem. You need a few simple caption prompts and a plan.
“I don’t want to be seen.”
That’s not strategy. That’s fear (and it’s very human).
“I’m waiting until it’s perfect.”
That’s perfectionism wearing a productivity costume.
Here are a few gentle questions to move through it:
What’s the worst thing I think will happen if I post this?
Is that likely… or just loud?
What’s the best thing that could happen if the right person sees it?
What would I tell a friend who felt like this?
And if you want a tiny reframe:
Posting your photos is not showing off. It is helping people find you.
A simple 4 week plan (copy and paste this)
If you want structure, here’s one:
Week 1: Update your profile photo + bio across platforms
Week 2: Publish a “Start here” post and pin it
Week 3: Update your About page with 3 new images
Week 4: Post one reel with B-roll + text overlay
That’s four small steps. No pressure. No “daily content”. Just momentum.
If you want support (gentle shove included)
If you’ve done a shoot with me and you’re still sitting on your gallery, I promise you’re not the only one.
If you want, you can reply to my emails or send me a message with:
what you want to do next
what’s stopping you
and which platforms you want to focus on
Sometimes you do not need a whole new plan. You just need someone to say, “Cool, let’s start here. Pick one.”
Because you already did the brave part.
Now we make it visible.
